Tonight we watched The Engine 2 Kitchen Rescue with Rip Esselstyn. Rip visited the homes of two families and helped them get rid of the unhealthy foods, went to the grocery store to educate them on better choices and finally, helped them prepare plant-strong meals in their own kitchens. The whole process was very eye-opening, particularly to see what people had previously thought were health foods (olive oil, low-fat dairy, vegan butter/margarine for example).
Rip taught the families how to read labels, which reminded me of a post that Jeff Novick, MS, RD* wrote about reading labels. I always thought I knew how to read labels, but Jeff brings it to a whole new level, in an easy, straight-forward way. I highly recommend reading his Understanding Food Labels post.
Has anyone else watched The Engine 2 Kitchen Rescue? What did you think?

Potluck - November 3, 2011
We had a wonderful potluck tonight! We welcomed 2 new members, discussed several issues and shared some fabulous food. It's such a joy to meet new people and come together as a group with similar interests - sharing ideas and offering support. Thank you to everyone that attended!

Potluck - October 6, 2011

We had a great time at tonight's potluck! We welcomed some new members and had some wonderful food. The new members prompted a conversation about why/how we have all come to move towards a vegetarian/vegan/plant-based diet. How about you - why are you making the journey? For your health, the animals, the environment or.....???? We'd love to hear - please share as a comment!
