Potluck - October 6, 2011

We had a great time at tonight's potluck! We welcomed some new members and had some wonderful food. The new members prompted a conversation about why/how we have all come to move towards a vegetarian/vegan/plant-based diet. How about you - why are you making the journey? For your health, the animals, the environment or.....???? We'd love to hear - please share as a comment!

  1. What a nice group! And a MAN, congrats! ;) (I know you are a bit lopsided in the female gender, ha!)
    That food looks wonderful!

I became vegetarian when I was about 13, on a dare! My sister, who was vegetarian and smoked, said to me one day, "I'll quit smoking, if you become vegetarian!" So I eagerly did, as I hated that my sister smoked! It took me almost 2 years (1989) to completely break the habit of eating meat, and she quit smoking "cold turkey" as they say!
Now, I have added many reasons for being vegan. (Since Feb 2009, on my 20th anniversary of being veg!) One of the top ones is because according to the Bible, it is our first diet in the Garden of Eden, and will be in heaven. I don't eat my friends, and animals are my friends. The cruelty is atrocious, and it's not healthy to eat animal products. I was really convicted of this by reading "The China Study," by T. Colin Campbell, and "The Real Forbidden Fruit," by Jeff Popick.

  2. How neat that you and your sister helped each other like that! I also really enjoyed reading "The China Study". The research and information in that book is astounding - it makes you want to shout it from the rooftops to wake people up!!!!

Thanks for being our first (of many, hopefully) comments!!!! :)
